UAE CV Requirements 2026: Complete Checklist
Exactly what to include — and what to leave out — on your UAE CV. From visa status to sector certifications, get every requirement right before you apply.
The UAE CV differs from Western CVs in one critical way: Gulf employers expect personal details that would be considered inappropriate in the UK, US, or EU. Including these correctly — and knowing which details to leave out — is essential for passing both human recruiter review and ATS screening.
Mandatory — Include on Every UAE CV
- ✓Visa Status
State your current visa type explicitly: Employment Visa (with or without NOC), Golden Visa, Visit Visa, Spouse/Dependent Visa, or Tourist Visa. UAE employers need this to assess time-to-hire and visa transfer requirements.
- ✓Nationality
This directly affects Emiratisation (Nafis) quotas and determines whether an employer needs to sponsor a new visa. State nationality as on your passport.
- ✓Phone Number (+971)
Always include the UAE country code. Format: +971-50-XXX-XXXX (mobile) or +971-4-XXX-XXXX (landline). Recruiters screen CVs daily and need a local number to call.
- ✓Professional Email
firstname.lastname@gmail.com or similar. Avoid nicknames or informal addresses. A professional email signals attention to detail.
- ✓City Only (Location)
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, etc. Never include your full street address on a CV — city name only is standard across the GCC.
Recommended — Include for Most UAE Roles
- →Date of Birth
Standard in Gulf CVs. UAE employers are accustomed to seeing this. Format: DD/MM/YYYY or written out (e.g. 15 March 1990).
- →Marital Status
Single, Married, or Divorced. While not legally required, Gulf employers often use this for accommodation and benefits planning. Include it briefly in your personal details section.
- →LinkedIn URL
UAE recruiters on LinkedIn actively source candidates. A complete profile with recommendations strengthens your application.
- →Photo
Optional in private sector. Include for hospitality, retail, front-of-house, or client-facing roles. Use a professional headshot with a neutral background — never a casual or holiday photo.
- →Professional Summary
2–4 lines tailored to the Gulf market. Reference years of UAE/GCC experience if applicable. Keep it concise and keyword-rich for ATS.
Sector-Specific Certifications — Include with Validity Dates
- DHA Licence — Dubai Health Authority. Mandatory for all healthcare professionals practising in Dubai. State registration number and expiry date.
- HAAD / DoH Licence — Abu Dhabi Department of Health. Required for Abu Dhabi healthcare roles. State classification level.
- RERA Certification — Real Estate Regulatory Agency. Required for all real estate brokers and agents in Dubai.
- KHDA Approval — Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Required for teaching positions in Dubai private schools.
- PMP / PRINCE2 — Include certification number and validity date. Widely valued in UAE construction and technology sectors.
- CFA / ACCA — Required for senior finance roles in DIFC and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Always include charter/membership number.
Emiratisation (Nafis) — UAE Nationals
UAE nationals (Emiratis) should highlight their nationality prominently in the personal details section. Many private sector employers — particularly banks, telecoms, and large corporates — have mandatory Emiratisation quotas set by the Nafis programme. This creates a structural hiring advantage for UAE nationals in targeted sectors. Your nationality is not just a personal detail; it is a key factor in your eligibility for quota-driven roles. Include it clearly and consider adding a brief note in your summary if applying to Nafis-incentivised organisations.
What NOT to Include on Your UAE CV
- ✗Passport Number — serious security risk. Never include identity document numbers on a CV.
- ✗Religion or Political Views — irrelevant and potentially harmful to your application.
- ✗Salary Expectations — discuss in the interview or when directly asked. Stating it on the CV can close doors before you've even spoken.
- ✗Full Home Address — city only (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, etc.). A full street address adds no value and poses a privacy risk.
- ✗References — simply write "References available upon request" or omit entirely. Do not list referees' contact details.
- ✗Outdated or Irrelevant Experience — limit work history to the past 10–15 years unless earlier experience is directly relevant.
