Why UK is Different

CV not Resume β€” and 2 Pages Are Normal

In the UK the document is always called a CV, never a resume. Two pages are acceptable and often expected for experienced professionals. UK recruiters are used to reading longer CVs than in the US, where one page is strongly preferred. A concise Personal Profile (3–4 lines) at the top is the norm; long summaries are disliked. Getting the terminology and length right shows you understand UK hiring culture.

ATS Compatibility

UK employers use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to screen applications. Our UK CV templates use simple formatting, standard fonts (e.g. Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman), and clear section headings so your CV passes automated filters and reaches human recruiters. No photos, no graphics, and a single-column layout keep your CV both ATS-friendly and professional.

Formal Tone & British Spelling

UK recruiters expect a slightly more formal tone than in the US. Use British spelling throughout (e.g. organisation, colour, centre, optimise). Quantified achievements are highly valuedβ€”include numbers, percentages, and measurable results in your experience bullets. Skills are often split into Technical Skills, Tools, and Languages rather than one long list. References are optional: either omit them or add a single line: "References available upon request."
