Why China Resume Requirements Matter

CVs targeting the China job market need to balance local expectations (formal tone, Chinese headings, sometimes photo) with international and ATS norms. Including the right sections and avoiding common mistakes helps your CV pass filters and make a strong impression on both local and MNC recruiters.

Recommended to Include

• Contact details — Name, email, phone, location. LinkedIn and personal website if relevant.
• Personal summary (個人簡介) — Concise, formal tone. 3–4 lines.
• Work experience (工作經驗) — Reverse chronological. Achievements with metrics where possible.
• Education (學歷) — Degree, institution, dates. Honours if strong.
• Skills (專業能力) — Technical skills, tools, languages. Categories (e.g. 進階/基礎) if helpful.
• Languages (語言) — With level if relevant (e.g. native, fluent, business).
• Activities (課外活動) — Extracurricular, volunteer, leadership. Optional but valuable.

Optional / Context-Dependent

• Photo — Often expected in mainland China; optional in our template. Omit for roles where bias is a concern.
• Age / birth date — Sometimes included locally; we keep it optional for international compatibility.
• Certifications, awards, courses — Include if they strengthen your application.

Best Practices

• Use a formal, respectful tone. Avoid casual language.
• Keep length to 1–2 pages; prioritise relevance.
• Use Chinese section headings if targeting Chinese-speaking recruiters (our China template does this by default).
• Ensure consistency in language (all Chinese or all English in each section) unless bilingual is expected.
